Searce empowers Kogta's analytics modernization with AWS-native architecture for real-time, scalable insights
Kogta Financial (India) Limited is a rapidly growing NBFC focused on secured lending in rural and semi-urban India. Its strength lies in deep market penetration and efficient loan underwriting. With increasing data volumes and a vision to leverage AI and agentic technologies, Kogta needed to move beyond its existing systems. To enable real-time analytics, smarter credit decisions, and scalable AI adoption, the company adopted modern data lake architecture to build a unified, scalable data foundation.
The challenge
Kogta encountered multiple data-related challenges that impacted on its operational efficiency and delayed the timely decision-making. These included reporting bottlenecks, as operational and MIS reports relied heavily on a legacy system that struggled to keep up with increasing data volumes and complex queries. Additionally, the existing infrastructure faced scalability limitations, highlighting the urgent need for a more automated, scalable, and reliable reporting and analytics solution.
The solution
To help Kogta overcome evolving data challenges and prepare for an AI native future, Searce designed and implemented a modern Lakehouse architecture on AWS. This solution blends the scalability of a data lake with the performance and structure of a data warehouse built on the Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers). It provides a unified, structured, and scalable foundation for advanced analytics, and lays the groundwork for deploying AI and Agentic AI solutions across the organization.
The goal was to enable near real-time data ingestion and transformation to support reporting, analytics, and AI applications. The unified Lakehouse architecture supports both operational and analytical needs, paving the way for scalable, intelligent, and automated decision-making.
Key aspects of the solution include:
- Medallion Architecture Implementation: Data is organized into Bronze (raw), Silver (cleansed/validated), and Gold (business-ready) layers, forming a structured and scalable pipeline. This approach enhances data quality, ensures traceability, and significantly boosts the performance of reporting, analytics, and AI workloads.
- Real-Time Data Ingestion & Processing: Data from transactional systems, partner integrations, and operational databases is ingested in near real-time using AWS Change Data Capture (CDC) and storage services. This enables timely, actionable insights for business teams and supports agile decision-making across the organization.
- Automation & Reusability: Automated workflows, data pipelines, and quality checks along with reusable transformation modules were implemented to streamline operations, reduce manual effort, minimize errors, and accelerate the integration of new data sources.
- Optimized for Analytics: Processed data in the Silver and Gold layers is optimized for high-performance reporting, interactive dashboards, and advanced analytics empowering business functions such as loan sales, risk management, collections, and operations with timely and reliable insights.
- Scalability & Reliability: Leveraging AWS-native services, the platform is designed to scale horizontally, deliver high availability, and support cost-efficient performance optimization, ensuring long-term reliability and flexibility as data volumes and use cases grow.
The impact
The implementation of the Lakehouse architecture using AWS native services and open source frameworks delivered significant business value to Kogta, across multiple dimensions:
- Near real-time data availability: Timely access to data is critical for an NBFC to drive informed decisions and meet compliance requirements. By enabling near real-time ingestion from diverse sources, the solution delivered clear operational visibility across disbursements, collections, and risk. This empowered teams to identify issues proactively, respond quickly, and stay aligned with strategic goals, enhancing efficiency, customer experience, and overall portfolio health.
- Scalability & Performance: The implementation of the Medallion architecture using AWS Lake Formation provided a scalable, secure, and cost-effective foundation for data processing. By integrating open source technologies such as Apache Spark and Apache Hudi, the solution delivered enhanced performance, efficient resource utilization, and accelerated data workflows supporting both operational needs and advanced analytics.
- Operational Efficiency & Automation: End-to-end automation of data pipelines minimized manual effort, enabling consistent and reliable data delivery. The use of reusable jobs and modular components accelerated the onboarding of new data sources through configurable and schedulable workflows. Intelligent automation and built-in alerting mechanisms further streamlined daily operations, enhancing monitoring, issue detection, and resolution efficiency.
- Data Integrity & Debugging Flexibility: The structured layering of the Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) provided granular access to data at every stage of its lifecycle. This flexibility empowered teams to perform validations, trace issues, and debug discrepancies efficiently without impacting upstream ingestion or downstream consumption thereby strengthening overall data trust and reliability.
- Empowered Business Users: Access to real-time, high-quality structured data enabled business users to leverage interactive dashboards and self-service reporting, accelerating decision making across functions like credit, risk, operations, and collections. With a centralized and unified data platform in place, the organization now operates from a single source of truth, supporting current analytics needs while being fully equipped to scale with future growth and innovation.
Searce modernized Kogta’s data ecosystem with AWS services, enabling near real-time reporting, improving efficiency, and delivering reliable insights, while laying a foundation for ongoing innovation.
